AN INTRODUCTION TO HEAT TRANSFER

ABOUT:

At the beginning of our Senior Year at Boston University, my two best friends and I embarked on a journey together to create our first full length play.  We created it for our Senior Thesis, but on our opening night in Boston, it became clear that it was meant to have a life beyond our college setting.  We have since put the play up in Full Circle Venice, and the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in New York.  This has been my heart, passion, and joy for a year and a half and i could not be more thankful for my two best friends being by my side the whole way.

PLOT:

Lila Albright and Emma Perkins have very different ideas of how they’ll get through their twenties. Emma has a plan; Lila's plan is... she has none. When they become roommates in their last year of college, they quickly learn that living together is a lot more than just sleeping and eating. AN INTRODUCTION TO HEAT TRANSFER is a play about tackling the confusion of one's twenties, who you do it with, and the fundamental factor of true friendship.

REVIEWS:

"In the lexicon of theater, HEAT TRANSFER has the potential to be the female equivalent of Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye; it provides a sensitive and thoughtful examination of the journey from adolescence as it meanders its way towards adulthood."  -Dr. Marlene Wagner, USC writing professor.

"Keep an eye on the gifted young people behind An Introduction to Heat Transfer: playwright Haley Jakobson and actors Matisse Rose and Kaela Shaw...Heat Transfer works because Haddad and Shaw do yeoman work on stage, creating three-dimensional undergraduates who are always believable, even when they are doing outrageous and nutty things, like having sex with the pizza delivery-boy..Jakobson, Rose and Shaw have injected a fresh burst of energy and creativity into the L.A. theater scene, and I look forward to seeing what the three of them will do in the future."  -Willard Manus, Total Theater

"it’s the show’s mild-mannered self-awareness and surprisingly consistent sense of humor that keeps the audience engaged...Much of the enjoyment of this production can be credited to its two actresses, both of whom are a pleasure to watch." - Bitter Lemons

"Playing Lila Albright, Matisse Rose captures her rambunctious and free-wheeling spirit...Rose has a gift for comedic timing and gives a firecracker of a performance." -Bitter Lemons
